The origin of a story
A visit to Vicpuntzero is an immersive experience, which places us at the highest point of the historic centre, where Vic began 2,000 years ago with the creation of the Roman city of Auso. Today, that same epicentre has become the starting point for the visitor to discover the city of Vic and be able to interpret its past and understand its present. This is where our story begins.
The Vicpuntzero experience is a guided tour that reinterprets the architectural complex of the Baroque church of La Pietat with its bell tower and the archaeological site of the Capella Fonda, with late-antique and medieval remains. Finally, the visitor can enjoy the immersive audiovisual entitled “Vic, a journey through time and art”, which takes us on a journey through the history of the city with art as the common thread, and with a powerful and innovative technological design.
It is worth pointing out the architectural work that has added value to this heritage complex, carried out by the architect Toni Gironés and which has been shortlisted for the 2021 Foment de les Arts i el Disseny (FAD) awards, in the City and Landscape category.
This architectural complex is located next to the Roman temple and the remains of the Montcada castle, which indicate the importance of this space. That is why the experience is called Vicpuntzero, because it is located in the founding epicentre of Vic.
Therefore, visiting Vicpuntzero is to experience the heartbeat of the city of Vic across time, history and art. We are looking forward to welcoming you here at Vicpuntzero, where the city begins!

A little history ...
When the Romans founded the city of Auso, they built the temple on a hill, so that it was higher than the rest of the city, as it corresponded to a sacred place.
Much later in the same place, in the ninth century, earl Guifré el Pilós had a defense tower built, as it had to be repopulated because the territory was abandoned after the Muslim raids. With the repopulation of the ninth century, the bishopric of the Visigothic period was also recovered, for this reason, in the lower part near the river, the building of the Cathedral was built, from where the bishop exercised the his dominion over this part of the city; in contrast to the upper part, which was ruled by the nobles.
Thus, medieval Vic was a city divided into two jurisdictions or parties, which caused many conflicts.
Over the centuries, the city grew again and became one of the most important in medieval Catalonia. That 9th century defense tower evolved into a castle from where the counts of Montcada exercised their feudal power over the city.
The castle, with a square floor plan, was a magnificent construction of the civil Romanesque style that over the centuries had different uses until it was demolished at the end of the 19th century, when the nobles of the time found it among the remains, to their surprise. , the structure of the ancient Roman Temple. In the upper part dominated by the counts there was a small church next to the walls of the Castell dels Montcada, it was the Romanesque building of Sant Sadurní, which while the division of the municipality lasted in a double jurisdiction, that is, until the 1450, was the own church of the inhabitants of the game of the Montcada. Inside, not only religious services were held, but also elections, meetings of trustees and councilors of that part of the city.
Thus, it was a church that the citizens felt very much loved and loved, as according to tradition in its basement were the relics of the holy martyrs, Lucian and Martian, who over the years became the patrons of the city, until they were replaced by the current patron: Sant Miquel dels Sants.

All this is possible by applying a participatory and critical methodology, which establishes a dialogue between the past and the present. Educational activities: Guided tour: ‘Vic, art and history. A fantastic journey through time!’ Archeology Workshop: ‘Following the beat of the stones.’ Art Workshop: ‘Let’s Reveal!
